Graham has over 8 year’s professional experience as a professional ecological consultant. Prior to founding Focus Ecology Ltd with joint Director Fern Fellowes-Day, he has worked in senior positions at two leading, independent ecological and multi-disciplinary consultancies managing numerous contracts countrywide.
He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Zoology from the University of Manchester and an MSc with distinction in Law and Environmental Science from the University of Nottingham.
His ecological experience includes ecological services to local planning authorities, surveys to identify nationally and locally important sites for wildlife and provision of technical reports and advice to support housing schemes, industrial developments, major infrastructure projects and mineral extraction.
Graham is a competent botanical surveyor to Phase I, Extended Phase I and Phase II requirements. Graham has specialist experience in surveys for protected species, and holds survey licenses for bats, great crested newts, white-clawed crayfish, and barn owls as well as expertise in the survey of badgers, reptiles, otter, water vole, breeding and over-wintering birds. Graham has held numerous Natural England ‘Mitigation’ (development) licenses for works affecting bats, great crested Newts and badgers.
Graham is accomplished in the production of robust, technical reports and Ecological Management Plans to ensure compliance and consistency with wildlife and planning legislation. As a full member of The Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM), Graham’s reports and advice provide the assurance of recognised best practice in the industry. Graham has acted as an expert witness on ecological matters for public inquiry.
